Yuletide!!

Dearest, darlingest Yuletide writer,

It's my favorite time of year! It's getting colder out, and the air smells like rain and words, and the fact that some of those words are going to be for me never fails to excite and astonish me. Let me first assure you that I adore fics of all sizes and shapes, and I already positive that I'm going to love whatever you write, because you'll be writing it for me, and how could I ever be anything but absolutely thrilled about that??

Right I should get down to brass tacks and stop rambling.

My four requests this year are:

Title: Going Where We've Never Gone Before
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: some language that wouldn't make it on basic cable, magic people making judgmental statements about HP fans
Word Count: ~15k
Summary: Urban fantasy AU. Penny steps through a crack in the wall, and then things get complicated. (Or: studying magic, working in a magic bookshop, going to auditions, playing match-maker, saving the world(s), and trying to make it big is all Quite Enough without also falling in love with one Sheldon Cooper, thankyouverymuch.)

A/N: much move love to El for turning sentences into things which are actually readable, Lauren for putting up with my scatter-brained ways and making a fantastic mix, and everyone else for dealing with my yearly BBBB-related meltdown! =D

MIXCollapse )
Title: Running the Numbers
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: ~1200
Disclaimer: Neither BBT nor Avengers are mine.
Summary: Penny/Pepper. Penny showed up with Dr. Cooper, who Tony promptly stole away, and the two ladies spent the rest of the night getting spectacularly drunk and trading my-scientist-is-more-of-an-idiot-than-yours stories.

How this works: below is a drabble. To participate, reply to this post with another drabble (exactly 100 words) containing a sentence or phrase from the original. Please leave the words you took on the first line, as well as the fandom in parentheses. (If no fandom/any fandom, just write "any"). The next person continues the trend, taking a sentence or phrase from any of the existing drabbles and creating their own.

You can draw from any drabble as many times as you want. It's okay to change the tense or the POV of the bit you've taken if you need to for it to make sense.

Also, all fandoms are welcome, including rpf, etc. Because of that, you can also substitute any character name for any other character name.

And, of course, make sure to add any trigger warnings if necessary.

Drabble:

She wades into the ocean. The salty water stings against a few scrapes on her legs, but she keeps going. The pull of the current tugs at her, and she pushes her sunglasses up and squints up at the sky. The clouds have burnt off, and the heat sinks deep into her skin. Kids are screaming and running on the boardwalk, and he's watching her from the sand. She waves, he glares back, and she laughs. Finally he drops his phone on their blanket and runs in after her. She kisses him soundly and then shoves him beneath a wave.

Title: Half a Heart Alone
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: ~1800
Disclaimer: HP isn't mine, etc.
Summary: Draco/Hermione, He's still there. She's not too surprised; she's learned to tell when people come in to drink with a purpose, and he's carrying that in his shoulders, in the way his fingers curl around his near-empty glass.

AN: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAURA!!!! (this...did not turn out how I expected. It was supposed to be happier, because it's your birthday, and I want you to have a happy birthday!!! Aaaanywho, ILU!)

Title: your shadow crosses mine
Rating: PG
Word Count: ~750
Disclaimer: Neither Sherlock nor Avengers are mine, etc.
Summary: pre-Coulson/Lestrade; set pre-Avengers, post-Reichenbach Falls. He begs a pint off the bartender, and then pulls out his phone, checking the three new text messages from Stark.

Title: i haven’t got the words for you
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 3300
Disclaimer: Sherlock isn't mine, etc.
Summary: Sherlock/Lestrade, Sherlock/John. Sherlock is an idiot. Except when he's not. (But he usually is.)
AN: idk idk I needed to post this I really dk.
Written for queer-fest, prompt was: Sherlock Holmes/any character, He's asexual, not aromantic. You'd have to be an idiot not to understand the difference. Unfortunately, most people are.

Title: just like a paperback novel; a post-apocalyptic fairytale
Rating: R for language.
Word Count: ~3000
Disclaimer: BBT isn't mine, etc etc
Summary: Penny & Sheldon & Wil. The one where Penny has to save Sheldon because he can't follow simple directions, and ugh why is Wheaton such a dick?

A/N: This was an attempt to write outside my comfort zone. Mostly it's a lot of swearing and Penny being badass. All the thanks ever to ishie for beta'ing, all mistakes are my mine natch.

just like a paperback novelCollapse )

This is going to sound corny, but I feel really good about turning 24. Idky, but I feel so much less flustered and weighed down and just super positive, and I have since the bonfire last night. The process of getting the bonfire ready was stressful because every small setback yesterday-day just seemed so overwhelmingly difficult to overcome, but once we all were finally sitting by the bonfire with the ocean air coming in and I was sharing a rum 'n coke (or "water" and coke as we referred to it, lol - no alcohol on the beach) with a friend and we all made s'mores and had our Subway sandwiches and laughed and closed out the night listening to Tired Pony and staring at the burning embers, I just felt so at peace.

And I thought that maybe that would go away today, but it hasn't. And it's not the usual burst of adrenaline or determination that I've had sporadically this last year, where I ride highs and lows and was generally all over the place emotionally. I woke up today and I just felt so much inner peace, I can't really explain it.
